  3. Understand that poetry and song are important tools for preserving culture, knowledge, faith, and history.
  4. Look at ways we can use the media of our time to bring about positive change in our community, just as this Shaykha did in her time.
  5. Understand that Shaykha Nana Asma’u wrote different types of books and poems for different needs.

  1. Understand that the heart is central to knowing and loving Allah.
  2. Recognize the role Imam Ghazali had in the development of religious thought in the West.
  3. Understand what the Ihya is and why it was written.
  4. Understand that Imam Ghazali left immense fame and fortune to seek true knowledge and love of God.
  5. Recognize the role of the socio-political climate in Imam Ghazali’s world.

Course Objectives

Students will be able to:

  1. Recognize the important role of Ahl al Bayt
  2. Be able to discuss the respect scholars had for the Sayyidah during her lifetime.
  3. Understand the role the Hajj played in the studies of many Muslim men and women.
  4. Recognize that male and female scholars taught each other and studied with each other.
  5. Study some of the sayings of the Sayyidah.

 

Muslim American Heroes

Course Objectives

Students will be able to:

  1. Identify what a hero is.
  2. Define prophetic character traits.
  3. Recognize prophetic traits in heroes of the past and of today.
  4. Identify key figures in Muslim American history.
  5. Compare and contrast the life of various contemporary heroes.

Students will be able to:

  1. Memorize and understand the statement of the Messenger of Allah. bless him and grant him peace, regarding an Najashi and his kingdom.
  2. Map out the Hijrah route.
  3. Identify the key events and characters in the Hijrah to Aksum. (Abyssinia)
  4. Discuss the superpowers in the 7th century and describe Aksum.
  5. Understand the role An Najashi played in the early Muslim community.
